For more information consult the <a rel=\"nofollow\" class=\"external text\" href=\"http:\/\/www.southafrica.info\/travel\/advice\/crime.htm#.VWKLAXM4Z4s\">safety tips<\/a> for travellers published by SouthAfrica.info.\n<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"mw-headline\" id=\"At_the_hotel\">At the hotel<\/span><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li> Never leave luggage unattended.\n<\/li>\n<li> Leave your hotel key at reception.\n<\/li>\n<li> Lock valuables in the hotel safe.\n<\/li>\n<li> Keep your room locked and always check who is at the door before opening.\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><span class=\"mw-headline\" id=\"In_the_street\">In the street<\/span><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li> Avoid wearing and displaying expensive jewellery, cameras and other valuables\n<\/li>\n<li> Avoid dark and isolated areas.\n<\/li>\n<li> Better to explore in groups and on busy streets.\n<\/li>\n<li> Do not carry large sums of money in cash.\n<\/li>\n<li> If involved in an armed robbery, mugging or car-jacking, do not resist as this could lead to an escalation in violence.\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\n<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"mw-headline\" id=\"When_travelling_by_car\">When travelling by car<\/span><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li> Keep doors locked and windows up at all times.\n<\/li>\n<li> Keep valuables away from view &#8211; there have been incidents where car windows are broken and valuables stolen while vehicles are stopped at intersections.
