Two possible images are:\n<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Image 1: John Singleton Copley\u2019s <a rel=\"nofollow\" class=\"external text\" href=\"http:\/\/www.nga.gov\/feature\/watson\/watsonhome.shtm\">Watson and the Shark<\/a>\n<\/li>\n<li>Image 2: Judy Pfaff\u2019s <a rel=\"nofollow\" class=\"external text\" href=\"http:\/\/www.georgetowncollege.edu\/galleries\/jacobs-gallery\/the-collection\/pieces\/untitled-3\/\">Untitled<\/a>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\nFor each one, write four sentences describing the artistic principles present in the work. Do not refer to any subject matter and be objective in your descriptions.\n<\/p>\n<p>Example: \u201cThe work makes an abundant use of pattern,\u201d or \u201cThis work uses asymmetric balance in its composition.\u201d For each work, also write one sentence that describes your subjective reaction to it. An example might be \u201cThe artwork has a dynamic feel to it\u201d or \u201cThe scale in this work disorients me.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p>Using the <a href=\"\/art101\/course-guide\/art-resources\" title=\"Art Appreciation and Techniques\/ART101\/Art resources\">Art Resources<\/a> or any other resources or links of your choice, objectively describe the two compositions and your subjective reaction to each of them.\n<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>What kind of visual balance is used in each?\n<\/li>\n<li>How does the balance affect the composition?\n<\/li>\n<li>Explain how effective each work is in terms of unity and variety.\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Example: \u201cThere is variety in the colors used, but they are mostly analogous to each other, and that creates a unity in the overall effect.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p>Be specific and include any links or images that help support your answers. Your final work on this section of the learning challenge should be at least five or six paragraphs.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n<\/div><\/p>\n<p>\n<\/p>\n<div class=\"panel iDevice\">\n\t<div class=\"panel-heading idevice-heading\">\n\t\t<div>\n\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"pedagogicalicon\" alt=\"objectives\" src=\"https:\/\/course.oeru.org\/art101\/wp-content\/themes\/oeru_course\/idevices\/Icon_objectives.png\">\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div>\n\t\t\t<h2>Artistic Elements and Principles<\/h2>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n\t<div class=\"panel-body\">\n\t\t<div class=\"col-md-12\">\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>Using the <a href=\"\/art101\/course-guide\/art-resources\" title=\"Art Appreciation and Techniques\/ART101\/Art resources\">Art Resources<\/a> or any other links or resources, choose two works of art from two different cultures. They can be two or three-dimensional, or one of each. Compare and contrast the two works, using the artistic elements (line, shape, volume, space, value, color and texture) and principles (repetition, rhythm, scale, differences in visual balance, etc.) you\u2019ve learned about in this learning pathway.\n<\/p>\n<p>For example:\n<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>What are the artistic elements and principles that are used in each? You can refer to the subject matter in each work, but focus mainly on objective comparisons.\n<\/li>\n<li>How do the compositions compare to each other? How are they similar?
