Now, independent films (those made outside of well-established studios) are having a larger effect on audiences because they can examine themes and ideas beyond what the big studios decide to finance.\n<\/p>\n<p>Respond to the following questions in the <a rel=\"nofollow\" class=\"external text\" href=\"https:\/\/forums.oeru.org\/t\/art102-film-and-photographs-challenge\/229\">course topic discussions forum<\/a>:\n<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>How often do you see films?\n<\/li>\n<li>Do you view films in a theatre or on other digital media?\n<\/li>\n<li>What genre\/kind of films do you like?\n<\/li>\n<li>Comment on the role of films to entertain and inform.\n<\/li>\n<li>What is your favorite film of all time? Why?\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>\n<\/p>\n<div class=\"panel iDevice\">\n\t<div class=\"panel-heading idevice-heading\">\n\t\t<div>\n\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"pedagogicalicon\" alt=\"objectives\" src=\"https:\/\/course.oeru.org\/art102\/wp-content\/themes\/oeru_course\/idevices\/Icon_objectives.png\">\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div>\n\t\t\t<h2>Photographs<\/h2>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n\t<div class=\"panel-body\">\n\t\t<div class=\"col-md-12\">\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>Photographs (or digital images) freeze a moment in time, encapsulating an idea and the narrative surrounding it.\n<\/p>\n<p>View the following three photos:\n<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Brassai\u2019s <a rel=\"nofollow\" class=\"external text\" href=\"http:\/\/www.masters-of-photography.com\/B\/brassai\/brassai_prostitute_full.html\">Prostitute<\/a> from \u201cParis at Night\u201d\n<\/li>\n<li>William Eggleston\u2019s <a rel=\"nofollow\" class=\"external text\" href=\"http:\/\/www.masters-of-photography.com\/E\/eggleston\/eggleston_miami_full.html\">Miami<\/a>\n<\/li>\n<li>Annie Leibovitz\u2019s <a rel=\"nofollow\" class=\"external text\" href=\"http:\/\/www.pbs.org\/wnet\/americanmasters\/episodes\/annie-leibovitz\/photo-gallery\/19\/\">Meryl Streep<\/a>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\nUsing the interpretive skills taught in both <a rel=\"nofollow\" class=\"external text\" href=\"http:\/\/course.oeru.org\/art101\/\">ART 101<\/a> and this ART 102 course, describe the form and content of each of the three images in your personal journal or blog, and also respond to the following questions:\n<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>What is the subject matter in each image?\n<\/li>\n<li>What do you think the photo is \u00ad\u00ad\u00ad\u00ad\u00ad\u00adexpressing?\n<\/li>\n<li>How do formal considerations contribute to your interpretation of each photo\u2019s content?\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Using the <a href=\"\/art102\/course-guide\/art-resources\" title=\"Art Appreciation and Techniques\/ART102\/Art resources\">Art Resources<\/a> links or any other resources or links of your choice, find another example of a photograph and share the link to it in the <a rel=\"nofollow\" class=\"external text\" href=\"https:\/\/forums.oeru.org\/t\/film-and-photographs-challenge-photographs\/236\">course discussion topic forum<\/a>.
