The course is designed for learners to also develop digital literacies for the 21st Century which will valuable for the future.\n<\/p>\n<p><i>Orientation to entrepreneurship<\/i> is offered to North-West University students registered for the <i>Becoming an entrepreneur<\/i> (BMAN111) course.\n<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"mw-headline\" id=\"What_will_I_learn.3F\">What will I learn?<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Upon successful completion of this course you will be able to:\n<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li> Define entrepreneurship\n<\/li>\n<li> Identify the characteristics of successful entrepreneurs\n<\/li>\n<li> Examine the key questions an entrepreneur should answer before starting a business\n<\/li>\n<li> Explain the purpose and benefits of a business plan\n<\/li>\n<li> Outline the different elements of a business plan\n<\/li>\n<li> Write an executive summary for a business plan, for a start-up business\n<\/li>\n<li> Read and interpret basic financial statements of a business\n<\/li>\n<li> Identify financing options for new business start-ups\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><span class=\"mw-headline\" id=\"What.27s_involved.3F\">What&#8217;s involved?<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Each study week you will complete a session by independent online study with your class participants comprising selected sections from seven learning pathways.\n<\/p>\n<p>The learning pathways are:\n<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li> <a href=\"\/bman111\/learning-pathways\/orientation\/overview\" title=\"Introduction to entrepreneurship\/BMAN111\/Orientation\/Overview\">Orientation<\/a> (to establish a personal digital learning environment)\n<\/li>\n<li> <a href=\"\/bman111\/learning-pathways\/introducing-entrepreneurship\/overview\" title=\"Introduction to entrepreneurship\/BMAN111\/Intro\/Overview\">Introduction to entrepreneurship<\/a>\n<\/li>\n<li> <a href=\"\/bman111\/learning-pathways\/what-makes-a-successful-entrepreneur\/overview\" title=\"Introduction to entrepreneurship\/BMAN111\/Entrepreneur\/Overview\">What makes a successful entrepreneur<\/a>\n<\/li>\n<li> <a href=\"\/bman111\/learning-pathways\/before-starting-your-own-business\/overview\" title=\"Introduction to entrepreneurship\/BMAN111\/Before\/Overview\">Before starting your own business<\/a>\n<\/li>\n<li> <a href=\"\/bman111\/learning-pathways\/business-planning\/overview\" title=\"Introduction to entrepreneurship\/BMAN111\/Planning\/Overview\">Business planning<\/a>\n<\/li>\n<li> <a href=\"\/bman111\/learning-pathways\/understanding-financial-statements\/overview\" title=\"Introduction to entrepreneurship\/BMAN111\/Statements\/Overview\">Understanding financial statements<\/a>\n<\/li>\n<li> <a href=\"\/bman111\/learning-pathways\/financing-a-new-start-up\/overview\" title=\"Introduction to entrepreneurship\/BMAN111\/Financing\/Overview\">Financing a new startup<\/a>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><span class=\"mw-headline\" id=\"What_prerequisites_should_I_have.2C_if_any.3F\">What prerequisites should I have, if any?<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Anyone is free to participate in this course. An internet connection and basic web-browsing skills are recommended, with the ability to create a blog and microblog account (instructions and self-study tutorials provided.)
