In general, communication is a means of connecting people or places. A simple communication model is used to highlight context in relation to other essential communication elements. The speaker emphasises that <b>context<\/b> plays a central role in the success or failure of communication. We learn that context includes\n<\/p>\n<dl>\n<dd>\n<ul>\n<li>emotional states (how do participants feel at the time of the communication?),\n<\/li>\n<li>the environment and physical setting,\n<\/li>\n<li>the relationship between participants,\n<\/li>\n<li>participants&#8217; backgrounds (e.g. culture and language), and\n<\/li>\n<li>timing.\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/dd>\n<\/dl>\n<p>The kind of feedback possible in different channels and environments also affects shared understanding.\n<\/p>\n<p>In closing, this video previews information we will see again later in this course in a set of questions and strategies to help you design and deliver effective messages.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n<\/p>\n<p><b>WEnote<\/b>\n<\/p>\n<p>In the WENotes feed, summarise your thoughts about the video.
