These micro-courses are 1\/3 of an award course (full course) that a typical student would enrol in at the University of Tasmania. These courses have been designed to allow learners to engage and sample learning from a higher education institution before deciding on their next step. Remembering all learning on OERu is free and assessments are always optional.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"mw-headline\" id=\"Course_Description\">Course Description<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Welcome to <b>Complementary medicine<\/b>!\n<\/p>\n<p>\n<\/p>\n<p>Complementary medicines have been steadily gaining in popularity over the last 40 years. A couple of generations ago, acupuncture had hardly been heard of in the West, and herbal medicine and dietary supplements were unusual. However today more than two-thirds of Australians either use complementary medicines or visit complementary medicine practitioners. And this is not unusual &#8211; the same phenomena is occurring in many countries around the world.\n<\/p>\n<p>In this course we will look in some detail at the people who use complementary medicines &#8211; why do they use them?\n<\/p>\n<p>what is the evidence behind their use, what counts as evidence?
