BedZED 2007<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

One Planet Living<\/a> is an initiative of Bioregional and its partners. The framework uses ecological footprinting and carbon footprinting as its headline indicators. It is based on ten guiding principles of sustainability as a framework.\n<\/p>\n

The concept of One Planet Living builds on sustainability work carried out by Bioregional over the past few decades but specifically grew out of Bioregional\u2019s work to build the BedZED eco-village in south London.\n<\/p>\n

The 10 One Planet Living principles cover:\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
 Health and happiness<\/b> <\/td>\n Encouraging active, sociable, meaningful lives to promote good health and well being.\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
 Equity and local economy<\/b> <\/td>\n Creating bioregional economies that support equity and diverse local employment and international fair trade.\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
 Culture and community<\/b> <\/td>\n Respecting and reviving local identity, wisdom and culture; encouraging the involvement of people in shaping their community and creating a new culture of sustainability.\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
 Land use and wildlife<\/b> <\/td>\n Protecting and restoring biodiversity and creating new natural habitats through good land use and integration into the built environment.\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

 Sustainable water<\/b> <\/td>\nUsing water efficiently in buildings, farming and manufacturing. Designing to avoid local issues such as flooding , drought and water course pollution.\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
 Local and sustainable food<\/b> <\/td>\nSupporting sustainable and humane farming, promoting access to healthy, low impact, local, seasonal and organic diets and reducing food waste.\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
 Sustainable materials<\/b> <\/td>\nUsing sustainable and healthy products, such as those with low embodied energy, sourced locally, made from renewable or waste resources.\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
 Sustainable transport<\/b> <\/td>\nReducing the need to travel, and encouraging low and zero carbon modes of transport to reduce emissions.\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
 Zero waste<\/b>  <\/td>\nReducing waste, reusing where possible, and ultimately sending zero waste to landfill.\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
 Zero carbon<\/b> <\/td>\nMaking buildings more energy efficient and delivering all energy with renewable technologies.\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n
