Poverty<\/b> Poverty can be defined in a number of ways, and has economic, social, cultural and political components. At its most basic level, poverty means lacking the minimum income required to meet basic needs. The specific income threshold varies substantially between countries, according to the cost of living within each.

\nExtreme Poverty<\/b> Extreme poverty is defined as living on less than $1.25 a day, usually on the edge of subsistence and without being able to meet the most basic daily needs for food, shelter and medicine.
