It is much harder to see propaganda systems at work where state controlled censorship is absent. In this section we introduce the work of Herman and Chomsky to investigate the challenges of propaganda through mass media in democratic systems.<br style=\"clear:both;\"><br \/>\n<div class=\"panel iDevice\">\n\t<div class=\"panel-heading idevice-heading\">\n\t\t<div>\n\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"pedagogicalicon\" alt=\"media\" src=\"https:\/\/course.oeru.org\/lida100\/wp-content\/themes\/oeru_course\/idevices\/Icon_multimedia.png\">\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div>\n\t\t\t<h2>Manufacturing consent<\/h2>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n\t<div class=\"panel-body\">\n\t\t<div class=\"col-md-12\">\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Noam_Chomsky\" class=\"extiw\" title=\"w:Noam Chomsky\">Noam Chomsky<\/a>, former Professor Emeritus at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), was a linguist. philosopher, cognitive scientist, historian and social critic. In 1988, Chomsky co-authored with Edward Herman a seminal book: <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Manufacturing_Consent\" class=\"extiw\" title=\"w:Manufacturing Consent\">Manufacturing Consent: The Political Economy of the Mass Media<\/a> in which they outlined a propaganda model for understanding mainstream media and identified five filters of editorial bias.
