Because we choose who we want to follow &#8211; usually like-minded individuals &#8211; social media can give us an unbalanced view.  It is important to seek out new perspectives to expand our own views and re-think our assumptions.\n<\/p>\n<p>In cultivating your PLN, it is important to include people you do not agree with. Doing so will make your PLN more diverse and will challenge your thinking.\n<\/p>\n<p>In their book <a rel=\"nofollow\" class=\"external text\" href=\"https:\/\/books.google.co.nz\/books?id=49g4DgAAQBAJ&amp;dq=The+Power+of+Pull:+How+Smart+Moves,+Smartly+Made,+Can+Set+Big+Things+in+Motion&amp;source=gbs_navlinks_s\">The power of pull: How smart moves, smartly made, can set big things in motion<\/a>, John Haagel III, Lang Davison, and John Seely Brown stress the importance of reaching outside your usual areas of interest and expertise.
