Field work<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><b>Field work<\/b> is an immersive and experiential way to engage students in the learning process. However, when you cannot hold a class on the Franz Josef Glacier to look at the impact of climate change, or transport 60 students to Paris to study the urban form and function of the city, virtual tours provide a way to create that \u201cin-the-field\u201d experience.\n<\/p>\n<p><b>Your Task:<\/b> Experiment with creating a field-work-inspired activity for one of your courses using one of the following virtual tour experiences:\n<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li> <a rel=\"nofollow\" class=\"external text\" href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/streetview\">Google Streetview<\/a>&nbsp;connects with Google\u2019s map service to show fully navigable views of map locations. This offers a means to observe anywhere on earth they have mapped. The&nbsp;<a rel=\"nofollow\" class=\"external text\" href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/streetview\/gallery\">Streetview Gallery<\/a>&nbsp;provides examples of where you can go.\n<\/li>\n<li> <a rel=\"nofollow\" class=\"external text\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mapcrunch.com\">MapCrunch<\/a>&nbsp;uses Streetview to transport you to a random location in the world. This might work as a writing prompt or an exercise to explore the cultures where you land.\n<\/li>\n<li> <a rel=\"nofollow\" class=\"external text\" href=\"https:\/\/www.geoguessr.com\">Geoguesser<\/a>&nbsp;provides random Streetview images from around the world, wrapped in a game format for identifying the location.\n<\/li>\n<li> <a rel=\"nofollow\" class=\"external text\" href=\"https:\/\/artsandculture.google.com\/project\/streetviews\">Google Museum View<\/a>&nbsp;uses the same &#8216;Streetview&#8217; technology to provide walk-through tours of museums around the world.\n<\/li>\n<li> <a rel=\"nofollow\" class=\"external text\" href=\"https:\/\/www.google.ca\/maps\/about\/treks\/#\/grid\">Google Map Treks<\/a>&nbsp;takes you inside the Taj Mahal, down the Grand Canyon, across the Sambura National Refuge in Kenya, to the Giza Pyramids in Egypt, and more.\n<\/li>\n<li> <a rel=\"nofollow\" class=\"external text\" href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/earth\">Google Earth<\/a>&nbsp;lifts you from the streets to explore the entire globe. Explore any location in full 360 degree navigation.\n<\/li>\n<li> <a rel=\"nofollow\" class=\"external text\" href=\"https:\/\/earthengine.google.com\/timelapse\">Google Earth Timelapse<\/a>&nbsp;provides a way to explore satellite images of different locations over different periods of time.\n<\/li>\n<li> <a rel=\"nofollow\" class=\"external text\" href=\"https:\/\/arvr.google.com\/tourcreator\">Google Tour Creator<\/a>&nbsp;helps you create your own virtual reality tours.\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Explore one or more of these virtual tours and find the web address to one specifically for which you could build a lesson on the experience. In your response, describe how you could integrate the tour into a learning activity, and what it might offer your learners.\n<\/p>\n<p>As evidence of completion, please add the web address or uploaded learning object to your Extend NZ blog or portfolio, together with your description of your learning activity and its advantages for learners.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"mw-headline\" id=\"7._Infographics\">7. Infographics<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>An <b>infographic<\/b> is \u201cdata, presented visually, that tells a story\u201d (from <a rel=\"nofollow\" class=\"external text\" href=\"https:\/\/sites.google.com\/view\/creating-infographics\/creating-infographics\">Creating Infographics<\/a>).\n<\/p>\n<p><b>Your Task:<\/b> There is no shortage of tools and articles for how to generate an infographic, but the most important steps happen <i>before<\/i> you open a tool &#8211; identifying your audience, the topic, researching and tracking the data you will use, and planning out the best ways to visualise the information. Experiment by creating an infographic to present data or as an explanation of an important concept in your discipline. Recommended tools include&nbsp;<a rel=\"nofollow\" class=\"external text\" href=\"https:\/\/piktochart.com\">Piktochart<\/a>,&nbsp;<a rel=\"nofollow\" class=\"external text\" href=\"https:\/\/www.canva.com\/create\/infographics\">Canva<\/a>,&nbsp;or <a rel=\"nofollow\" class=\"external text\" href=\"https:\/\/spark.adobe.com\/make\/infographic-maker\">Adobe Spark<\/a>.\n<\/p>\n<p>As evidence of completion, please add the web address for your infographic or upload a copy to your Extend NZ blog or portfolio.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"mw-headline\" id=\"8._UDG_Agora_Studio_Challenges\">8. UDG Agora Studio Challenges<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The <a rel=\"nofollow\" class=\"external text\" href=\"http:\/\/udg.theagoraonline.net\/bank\">UDG Agora Challenge Bank<\/a> is one of the inspirations behind the Extend activities. This collection of activities was created as part of a <a rel=\"nofollow\" class=\"external text\" href=\"http:\/\/udg.theagoraonline.net\">staff development programme<\/a> for the University of Guadalajara, specifically focused on integration of technologies and strategies that are effective on mobile devices.\n<\/p>\n<p><b>Your Task:<\/b> Explore the <a rel=\"nofollow\" class=\"external text\" href=\"http:\/\/udg.theagoraonline.net\/bank\">UDG Challenge Bank<\/a>&nbsp;(you can even try a&nbsp;<a rel=\"nofollow\" class=\"external text\" href=\"http:\/\/udg.theagoraonline.net\/bank\/random\">randomly selected<\/a> one)&nbsp;and&nbsp;try one of the challenges.\n<\/p>\n<p>Please share the details of your completed Agora Project challenge. Padlet<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><b>Padlet<\/b> offers a virtual bulletin board for sharing words, web sites, audio, video, and creating connecting between items. Padlets can be set up to allow contributions without logging on or they can be made private. Creating a <a rel=\"nofollow\" class=\"external text\" href=\"https:\/\/padlet.com\">Padlet<\/a> is often described as building a living, breathing web page.\n<\/p>\n<p>Your Task:<br \/>\nExplore <a rel=\"nofollow\" class=\"external text\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bookwidgets.com\/blog\/2017\/08\/30-creative-ways-to-use-padlet-for-teachers-and-students\">30 Creative Ways to Use Padlet for Teachers and Students<\/a>&nbsp;(BookWidgets blog) for specific types of activities that educators might create.
