Introduction<\/span><\/h2>\n

This topic develops issues raised in Theme 2 of this course Pattern Recognition<\/a>.\n<\/p>\n

R<\/a> is a programming language and a software environment for statistical computing and graphics that is supported by the R Foundation for Statistical Computing.[1]<\/a><\/sup>\n<\/p>\n

Kurt Hornik and Friedrich Leisch[2]<\/a><\/sup> introduce R in the first edition of the R Newsletter. The R Core Team provide a brief background report about R in the newsletter[3]<\/a><\/sup>\n<\/p>\n
