Solutions often come from unexpected places as momentum builds in a project.

Consider the Estonian campaign “Let’s Do It!” This was a grass-roots initiative to clean up the country from illegal waste in just one day. On 3rd May 2008, 50,000 volunteers cleaned up more than 10,000 tons of garbage.
As a result:

  • 22.5 million euros worth of work was done with the cost of 0.5 million euros.
  • Waste dumping has since decreased by 75%.
  • 10,000 tons of garbage was put into proper waste handling processes.
  • 40% of the garbage was recycled – a record in Estonia.
