Openshot is a Free and Open Source video editor (available for Windows, macOS and Linux), that is easy to use. In this section, you will download and install the software.
Download and install Openshot
Purpose: To install an open source video-editing application on your computer.
Note: This is a large file (about 131MB) and may take some time to download on a low bandwidth connection. If more than one teacher at your school is participating in this course, we suggest that one person downloads the software (to save on data). You can then share it “offline” using a portable flash drive.
- Go to the OpenShot homepage: https://www.openshot.org/
- Click on the Blue Download button (don’t click on the advertisement for “start download” option for the NCH’s VideoPad Video Editor – see the screencast video below if you’re not sure what to do)
- Alternatively, you can select the “Download” link in the main menu: https://www.openshot.org/download/ (again, avoid the advertisement for downloading the VideoPad Video Editor)
- The website should automatically recognise your operating system. If you have an alternate operating system from the machine you are using for the Download, select the appropriate option under the “Looking for a different download?” sub-heading
- Once the download has completed, double click on the file to start the installation process and follow the instructions on screen
