Dear Student,

Welcome to Session 1 of World History: The Early Modern Period. The course website is: http://course.oeru.org/whme101/ and if you haven’t bookmarked it already, we recommend you do so.

In Session 1 we begin by examining the Atlantic World at the opening of the Early Modern Period. By the early 1600s, growing maritime trade networks around the rim of the Atlantic ocean were having a significant impact on the peoples and rulers of Europe, North America, South America and Africa. In this session you will have the opportunity to learn about trade patterns, the slave trade and the impact of colonisation during this period.

You can access Session 1 here.

It is also a great idea to share your learning experience by posting comments on WEnotes. You might also like to read the posts of fellow learners, and perhaps help each other as part of our learning community.

Enjoy your learning,

Deborah
